Social Media Buttons: Are they important to have on your website?

  • They Give you credibility and they make it super easy to increase your followers.
  • Think about it, if you’re on a website and there are no social media icons to connect you to their social pages, how likely are you to leave the website, log into the social channels you like to use, and then search for them? I don’t think I need to give you the answer to that question, now do I?

Having Social Media buttons on your website is also a great way to get readers engaged and to share your information. If someone is reading your blog or newsletter and he or she likes it, but they can’t share it because you don’t make it easy for them then you have lost out on that gain. The very basic premise behind social media marketing is to educate your followers. If they cannot share your information, well you’re way behind before you even start. You can’t show off how good you really are within your business area and engage your readers, and in turn drive traffic back to your website, if you do not make it easy for people to share your content.

What platforms are best for you to use?

The answer to that is in knowing your brand and your followers.

Find out what platform they like to use best. If millenials are your target audience, then you need Instagram and Twitter as your billboards for Facebook and your website.

It is important to note only to show buttons that your company and your audience will actually use. This allows the page to look less clogged up without having share buttons and icons flying about when someone is trying to read something! At the same time, having actionable buttons will generate traffic to and from your website. Be sure to monitor where your website traffic comes from in terms of social media. If 90% of your traffic comes from Facebook and Google+ then make sure your buttons reflect these results.

You will know things are going well when you have a high number a shares and comments, which can encourage more readers to share and comment if they see it’s popular.  Plus, the algorithms of your social platforms will be watching and posturing you on their platforms. The more traffic and commentary, the better opportunities you will have of being seen.

A good way of remembering how you should display your social media icon buttons is to think as if you’re a new customer. If it’s not all that visible to you when you’re searching your blog or website, chances are, they won’t see them either.
